Joe Hayes Cleanline West U19A Hurling Championship – Round 3

Golden/Kilfeacle 1.18(21)
Cappawhite Gaels 0.17(17)

John O’Shea at Golden

Golden/Kilfeacle advanced to the Final of the Joe Hayes Cleanline West Under 19A Hurling championship following their four-point victory over an understrength Cappawhite Gaels at Golden on Tuesday evening. Cappawhite Gaels will now play Cashel King Cormacs in the semi-final.

The sides were level at 0.3 after eight minutes but a Jack Lonergan goal gave the home side a cushion, that would stand to them for the remainder of the contest. This goal gave Golden a lift and they went on to score five points without reply, three from Ben Currivan and one each from Aaron Colohan and Jack Bergin. Cappa Gaels completely owned the second quarter with Caoimhin Doody and James Quinlan leading by example. By the half time whistle they had cut the deficit to the minimum, 1.8 to 0.10.

James Quinlan, from a placed ball, tied the game one minute after the restart and this trend continued for the remainder of the game, with never more than one or two points separating the sides. Cappa were unable to get the goal that was required to bring the game to life and two late scores from Ciaran Byrnes sealed the game for the home side, who now advance to the final where they will play the winners of Cashel King Cormacs and Cappawhite Gaels.
