Eire Og Annacarty Donohill qualified for the final of the Shane Hennessy Agri Advisor West Junior B Football championship, after withstanding a second half Cappawhite comeback at Clonoulty on Sunday night. Three first half goals from corner forward, Cian Ryan, one from the penalty spot two minutes before the half time break, were enough to get them over the line.
Cappawhite staged a second half comeback and two goals from Willie Barry in the third and final quarters just had them come up short on the night..
Eire Og set out their stall from the off and points from Philip McGrath, Cian Ryan and Ronan O’Brien had them three up after six minutes. Eire Og’s first goal came on eight minutes when Cian Ryan was first to react to a shot from Philip McGrath coming back off the upright, and the corner forward made no mistake, beating Aodan Mair in the Cappa goal. Two minutes later Ryan was again on hand for a pass from Michael Buckley, which he dispatched to the corner of the net for goal number two.
Cappawhite hit back and points from Eoghan Ryan (2) and David Buckley left the score, Eire Og 2.3, Cappawhite 0.3 at the water break.
Eire Og continued to apply pressure, playing good open football, with Philip McGrath and Jack Kingston adding to their tally. Eoghan Ryan pulled one back for Cappa, before Cian Ryan completed his hat trick two minutes before the break, when he slotted home a penalty after Philip McGrath was pulled down in the penalty area. This left the half time score, 3.5 to 0.4 in favour of Eire Og.
Cappa upped their game after the half time break and began to eat into the Eire Og lead. David and Michael P Buckley put over two points before Willie Barry crashed home a goal at the near end to leave five points between the sides. Points from Pat Ahern and Philip McGrath stemmed the Cappa tied, but a second goal from Willie Barry cut the deficit to four. Time ran out for Cappa and Willie O’Neill had the final say when he put over at the far end with almost the last play of the night. Eire Og now play Aherlow in the final.
