2023 West Junior B Hurling Semi Final

Tipperary Co-Op West Junior B Hurling Championship Semi-Final.

Cappawhite 6-13(31)
Emly 2-11(17)

Michael McCarthy at Sean Treacy Park.

On a sun soaked Sean Treacy Park Goal hungry Cappawhite booked a place in this year’s west Junior B final with a comprehensive win over Emly. Three goals in the opening 12 minutes had Cappawhite well on top and would never look back.
Jamie Carroll got Emly off the mark early with the opening score and the only time Emly would lead. Anthony Barry cancelled out that point with a pointed free of his own before scoring a major 30 seconds later. Two minutes later Neil Clancy got in for his first and Cappawhite’s second and by the 12th minute had his side’s third goal as Cappawhite led 3-3 to 0-1 and the game was all but over. To Emly’s credit they fought on and with the addition of a sweeper would come somewhat back into the game by half time. Shane Carroll scored a goal in 19 minutes added to points from Aidan O’Heney and Kevin Lonergan and Emly reduced the deficit to six at the break, 3-5 to 1-5.

On the restart an Aidan O’Heney free had the deficit at five but a long range free from Cappawhite’s James Quinlan found its way to the net, a score which would deflate Emly. Aidan O’Heney and Anthony Barry would swap pointed frees before Jack Armshaw burst through for his first goal on 15 minutes and followed up with his 2nd four minutes later. Darragh McCauley was introduced for Emly and helped himself to two points and in truth was probably unlucky not to have a penalty for one of them. Ciarán Doody, James Quinlan, Eoghan Ryan and Ross Dunne would round out the scoring while Emly’s only score in the last ten minutes was a solitary Aidan O’Heney goal.

Cappawhite’s blistering start work the game for them and while Emly battled hard never looked like getting back into the game.
Neil Clancy and Anthony Barry were serious threats up front while the movement of Jack Armshaw was a joy to see. The platform for the win was the Cappa half back line who were dominant throughout. The ageless Thomas Costello and Paddy Julian at full-back and midfield respectively had their moments also. For Emly Aidan & Paul O’Heney took the fight to Cappa’ and we’re ably assisted by Kevin Lonergan and substitute Darragh McCauley.
Cappawhite now play neighbours Solohead who had a convincing win in their semi final also in a battle of the reigning Champions Vs the League winners. That game will be played on September 16th at 5pm in Bansha.
